NORMAN — Junior Jammer basketball

The 2014 Winter Junior Jammer Basketball League registration deadline is Dec. 18.

Forms can be downloaded at juniorjammer.com and may be turned in at any Norman recreation center or at the parks and recreation office at 201-C W. Gray St. Registrations also may be returned by mail to Parks and Recreation, P.O. Box 370, Norman, OK 73070.

League play is set to begin Mid-January, and games will be played at Whittier and Irving recreation centers along with Alcott and Longfellow Middle Schools.

Recycling running behind

Due to the inclement weather and icy neighborhood street, Norman’s curbside recycling contractor, Republic Services, is running one day behind on all routes in Norman.

· Tuesday routes will be serviced today

· Wednesday routes will be serviced Thursday

· Thursday routes will be serviced Friday

· Friday routes will be serviced Saturday

Beginning Monday, Republic will return to normal collections schedule.

 

Legislation would prevent youth access to e-cigarettes

Oklahoma Sen. Frank Simpson and Rep. Pat Ownbey will file legislation this coming session to prevent youth access to e-cigarettes.

The bill will expand the definition of tobacco products in the Prevention of Youth Access to Tobacco Act to include all nicotine delivery products other than FDA-approved cessation aids.

Oklahoma does not prohibit the sale or restrict the advertising of e-cigarettes and vapor products to youth. However, state statute restricts youth access to and advertising of other tobacco products aimed at youth.

State Health Commissioner Terry Cline requested the bill.

Property auction

Coin collections, precious metal, collectible cards and class rings are some of the items from more than 700 abandoned safe deposit boxes scheduled for auction next week, State Treasurer Ken Miller said. The auction will start at 9 a.m. Dec. 18 at Dakil Auctioneers, 200 N.W. 114th St., Oklahoma City. Registration and inspection are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
