Legislation would prevent youth access to e-cigarettes

Oklahoma Sen. Frank Simpson and Rep. Pat Ownbey will file legislation this coming session to prevent youth access to e-cigarettes.

The bill will expand the definition of tobacco products in the Prevention of Youth Access to Tobacco Act to include all nicotine delivery products other than FDA-approved cessation aids.

Oklahoma does not prohibit the sale or restrict the advertising of e-cigarettes and vapor products to youth. However, state statute restricts youth access to and advertising of other tobacco products aimed at youth.

State Health Commissioner Terry Cline requested the bill.

Property auction

Coin collections, precious metal, collectible cards and class rings are some of the items from more than 700 abandoned safe deposit boxes scheduled for auction next week, State Treasurer Ken Miller said. The auction will start at 9 a.m. Dec. 18 at Dakil Auctioneers, 200 N.W. 114th St., Oklahoma City. Registration and inspection are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
