Businesses partner with Meals on Wheels

NORMAN — With two weeks remaining until the kick-off, Meals on Wheels of Norman has once again reached a landmark with a record number of local businesses committed to the 2013 Adopt A Route annual sponsorship campaign.

Summer McGuire, associate director of Meals on Wheels of Norman said the 2013 Adopt A Route campaign has 21 confirmed partners to date.

“We are so pleased with the response from the Norman Community to partner with Meals on Wheels of Norman through our sponsorship campaign,” said McGuire. “The Adopt A Route campaign is now in its fifth year. In the beginning we always had a goal in mind of having all 20 delivery routes sponsored by a local business partner.

“The first year, we started with seven partners, the following year we had 13, in 2011 we increased to 18, and last year we hit our goal of 20 businesses.

“This year, we were ecstatic when we topped last year’s goal and will have 21 partners joining our efforts and adopting a Meals on Wheels route.”

The Adopt A Route program offers businesses the opportunity to give back to our community through Meals on Wheels to help end senior hunger and create social responsibility for their company.

The companies will receive year-round recognition and co-branding advertising in return for their support.

“We feel that we are in a unique position, as a nonprofit. We can testify to the residents of Norman about how great our partnering businesses are in supporting the elderly of Meals on Wheels and dedication to making Norman such a wonderful community,” said McGuire. “We realize that not all businesses benefit from the typical set incentive packages. The Adopt A Route program allows our partners to create their own incentive package that will be the most beneficial to their business and its goals.”

2013 Adopt A Route sponsors include: First American Bank, Moore Norman Technology Center, Miko Group, Primrose Funeral Home, Bare Property Management, Lifecare Oklahoma, Centuria Corp., Arvest Bank, Fowler Toyota, Flintco, LLC, Legacy Homecare Associates, Wright’s Family Market, The Trails Golf Club, Norman Regional Health System, OEC, OG&E, Riverwind Casino, Sarkeys Foundation, Sports Talk 1400 am, United Way of Norman, The Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation.

The Adopt A Route campaign will officially kick off April 1.

March is recognized as Meals on Wheels month across the nation. On March 27, Meals on Wheels of Norman will host the annual Big Wheels for Meals on Wheels event at the Norman Regional Health System Education Center.

Community leaders and representatives from our Adopt A Route partnering companies will have the opportunity to experience a meal delivery and learn more about Meals on Wheels of Norman.

Cindy Zumwalt, senior vice president of First American Bank, said the bank is excited to renew its sponsorship for the fifth year of the program.

“First American Bank views our partnership with the Meals on Wheels’ Adopt a Route Program as a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community,” said Zumwalt. “We feel so strongly about the benefits of the Meals on Wheels program that our employees participate by delivering meals themselves.”

Studies show that businesses that are invested in the community and support community causes have a better image with the consumer.
