HUGS project for soldiers, tornado victims and clean-up volunteers seeks workers

NORMAN — The Cleveland County 4-H and Oklahoma Home Community Education (OHCE) will make HUGS for U.S. soldiers, tornado victims and volunteers that are aiding tornado clean-up efforts July 8-11 and July 15-18 at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during both sessions.

The HUGS project includes a neck wrap that is sewn with 100 percent cotton filled with watering crystals; they are designed to help reduce the body’s core temperature up to 10 degrees on a hot day. Individuals are needed to iron, fill the cool ties and sew. Donations of 100 cotton fabric also can be made. Individuals can bring their own sewing machine.

The deadline to sign up for the first session will be noon Friday and the deadline for the second session will be July 12. Lunch will be furnished on some days and others it will be $6.
