NORMAN — Beverly Felton will be the speaker at the Tyner Cornbread and Beans luncheon Friday.
Felton is the executive director of health for the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health Authority and will speak on the tribe’s health initiatives.
Felton is a full-blood member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and the first woman to have the position as executive director. She has been a nurse for 18 years, starting as a staff nurse at Carl Albert Indian Hospital before becoming the RN supervisor for the AST in l995.
In 2005, she was hired to instruct in the evening practical nursing program at Moore Norman Technical Center and rose to the directorship in 2009. In 2012, she became the executive director of Health for the AST’s Health Authority.
Felton is the Sunday school director at Cornerstone Indian Baptist Church and is president of the Little Axe Board of Education.
The luncheon will be at Catering Creations, 3750 W. Main St., and is sponsored by the Cleveland County Democratic Party.
Lunch begins at 11:15 a.m. with the speaker beginning about noon. Guests can select from Catering Creations’ mini-buffet. The meeting is open to the public.
