For you, Norman

NORMAN — As the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau heads into budgeting for the new Fiscal Year that begins July 1, we are able to enact some additional initiatives thanks to the passage of the Transient Guest Tax last month.

Highlights for the new budgeting cycle would include:

· Mobile welcome center. Purchase of a “food truck” or used service truck (like the UPS or FedEx vehicles) to be equipped with brochure racks, audio, video and more. The mobile unit would be used at Sooner Fan Fest, major festivals, parades along with other potential uses like groundbreaking public address and backdrop, promotion of Norman arts at Oklahoma City and Tulsa arts events and more.

· Main Street banners. With the new light poles along Main Street have come new brackets for banners. We would produce welcome banners to be hung along Main Street. The banners would further enhance Norman as a destination to the visitor. (If you are a Norman business owner, you will more than likely be hearing from us in the very near future.)

· Research. One research project would be a brand assessment that would objectively evaluate perceptions of the destination brand’s current brand position, building toward consensus among the organization’s primary stakeholders with the brand’s reality: where and how the destination is perceived today.

The other research would hope to more accurately estimate attendance at key festivals and events and prepare an economic impact report for those festivals and events.

· New expos/trade-shows. The sales staff will explore attendance and/or outreach within the Groups (Meetings) markets. Being able to attend and showcase Norman in more and larger events would present the sales staff with the opportunity to attract new, different and more conferences, conventions and sporting events.

· Visitnorman.com. Additional upgrading to the functionality to VisitNorman.com to include blogging capabilities, multiple brochure request function, videos throughout the site, upgraded mapping function, itinerary builder, featured listing and more.

These initiatives are all part of the overall strategy for the Norman CVB to attract outside dollars into Norman to build our economy and quality of life.

Stefanie Brickman, CTA, is the communications manager of the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau.
