NORMAN — Law enforcement officials said they are investigating a death that occurred early Sunday morning at the Cleveland County jail.
According to Meghan McCormick, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, there were no visible injuries on the woman and they are not releasing her name until next of kin can be notified.
McCormick said the female was brought to the jail by the Moore Police Department on a city complaint.
“The medical staff evaluated her when she was brought in and deemed her fit for incarceration,” McCormick said. “She was in a cell by herself. At 4:30 this morning, she was found unresponsive. Nursing staff and jail personnel immediately started giving her medical care until fire and EMS arrived.”
McCormick said the woman was transported to Norman Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“Detectives are investigating and the body has been transported to the Medical Examiners Office,” McCormick said.
