NORMAN — Hundreds of people filled the pews Sunday night at Alameda Church of Christ for the inaugural Jingle Jam.
The event kicked off with several Christmas songs to celebrate the holiday, including Away in the Manger, Jingle Bells and We Wish You A Merry Christmas. The event also highlighted the drama team at the church as they performed a short skit for the audience.
“People are always looking for something to do for Christmas where they can get together with family,” said Children’s Minister Jenny Lusty. “We wanted to do something for the community that would help spread a little joy.”
The drama team works with the children every Sunday so it was a great opportunity to showcase what they do, Lusty said.
“This (event) was a way to get us all together and (showcase) that,” she said.
Volunteer Laura Zyonse said the event was also a great community outreach opportunity.
Lusty said she has been very grateful for all of the volunteers that it took to put the event together.
“They’re the wheels to the project,” she said.
Lusty also said she was very grateful for the congregation supporting the event.
In addition to the songs and skit, the event also provided opportunities for pictures with Santa, a family photo booth, Christmas crafts and bounce houses, as well as cookies and hot chocolate.
