NORMAN — A wintry mix of rain and sleet and the threat of dropping temperatures led officials to cancel or postpone activities Friday.

Activities canceled included the 6A quarterfinal football game between Westmoore High School and Lawton High School, which was rescheduled for today at noon in Lawton. The Washington-Hennessey quarterfinal was moved to 1 p.m. today.

Additionally, the Norman North High School musical was canceled Friday. All ticket sales for Friday’s NNHS musical will be honored at the 2 p.m. Sunday showing. The 7 o’clock performance for tonight is still set to occur. For more information and updates, visit

The University of Oklahoma closed Norman campus at 3:30 p.m. on Friday due to inclement weather. Only essential services remained open. The campus is scheduled to reopen with normal activity on Monday.

The Cleveland County Courthouse closed at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Rain began falling in central Oklahoma before noon Friday. Police Capt. Tom Easley said three non-injury crashes were reported beginning at 12:20 p.m. Friday.

They were near 60th Avenue NE and Alameda, Highway 9 and Classen and along I-35 between Indian Hills Road and the U.S. 77 exit.

Easley said if conditions worsen and accidents increase police will only respond to injury accidents.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said firefighters reported no problems Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory that will continue through 6 a.m. today. It warns of areas of sleet and light freezing rain, primarily across northern and western Oklahoma.
