Police pursuing leads after 20-plus thefts from vehicles called in over 5 days

NORMAN — Norman police are pursuing leads after more than 20 reported incidents were associated with thefts from vehicles over a five-day period in northwest Norman.

The reports came from between 48th and 36th avenues Northwest and border West Robinson and West Main streets. Police logs indicate 13 larceny reports on Wednesday, most of them near Fire Station 4.

Capt. Tom Easley said they have some leads they are pursuing in relation to the larcenies.

According to police analysts, 14 incidents reported between Sept. 20 and Wednesday occurred when vehicles were unlocked. An additional 10 incidents were reported Sept. 20 and Monday, but the vehicles displayed no sign of forced entry.

“Do not leave valuables in your car unless you want them stolen,” Easley said. “Suspects are probably stealing from unlocked vehicles –– they’re easy targets when it’s dark.”

Easley said everyone should either lock their cars or put them in a garage.
