ODMHSAS appoints children’s recovery center director

NORMAN — The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services has appointed longtime employee Teresa Capps to lead the agency’s Children’s Recovery Center in Norman.

Capps has been serving as interim director for several months.

Carrie Slatton-Hodges, ODMHSAS deputy commissioner for Recovery and Treatment Services, said Capps brings compassion, a wealth of knowledge and years of service to her new position.

CRC is a 55-bed residential inpatient facility for adolescents with mental health and/or substance abuse issues. It is one of only a few “sanctuary certified” children’s centers in the nation.

Capps, a native of Pauls Valley, was project director for the Cleveland and McClain County Systems of Care, based out of Central Oklahoma Community Health Center in Norman, for more than 10 years before accepting the interim director position at CRC in December 2012. She also was director of children’s mental health services at COCMHC from January 1992 until present.

She has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education, with a counseling emphasis, from the University of Oklahoma. She is a licensed professional counselor and licensed professional counselor supervisor through the Oklahoma Department of Health.

Her work has been recognized with numerous awards.
