NORMAN — The Bedlam Blood Drive kicked off in Norman Monday outside of O’Connell’s Irish Pub and Grille on Campus Corner.
“It’s a competition between OU and OSU that raises awareness for those in need of blood as well as the supply of blood,” said Jeff Stewart, president of the Campus Corner Merchandise Association. “It’s an easy way to help somebody else.”
The Oklahoma Blood Institute’s blood mobile will be outside the OU ROTC Armory, 1000 Asp Ave., from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Friday for the blood battle.
Not many people donated on the first day, but Stewart attributed the slow day to it being a Monday as well as the Veterans Day federal holiday. All donors will receive an OU “I bleed crimson” T-shirt and a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Bedlam football game. One donor each day also will win an autographed football from head coach Bob Stoops.
“It (the blood drive) goes along with the Bedlam game coming up,” Stewart said.
The Bedlam game is Nov. 24 in Norman. Stewart said OSU won the Bedlam Blood Drive last year. The winner receives the traveling trophy and gets bragging rights.
