NORMAN — Open call auditions for the OK City Star Contest will take place on university campuses in four different Oklahoma cities, including Norman.
The audition sites and times are from 4 to 8 p.m. April 12 at Tulsa University’s Meinig Recital Hall, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 13 at University of Central Oklahoma’s Radke Recital Hall, from 4 to 8 p.m. April 13 at Oklahoma City University’s Ensemble Room 3 and from 2 to 6 p.m. April 14 at the University of Oklahoma’s Crimson Room in the Student Union.
The competition is open to all singers ages 16-25. The event is presented by the OK City Chorus of Sweet Adelines.
Contestants at the open auditions will sing 16 bars without accompaniment (a cappella) for a three-judge panel. Singers receiving a callback will sing a one-minute section of a song that may be done with a track or a cappella.
Following the four rounds of open auditions in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Edmond and Norman, up to 48 singers will be selected for the semi-final round April 19 at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, where they will perform the song of their choice for a panel of music experts from multiple genres.
Semifinalists will be invited to an educational symposium April 20 at St. Luke’s Poteet Theater complex in Oklahoma City. The top 10 singers will move on to the finals April 27 in the Douglass High School Auditorium in Oklahoma City.
