NORMAN — Norman police responded to an incident involving a train and a pedestrian near the Acres Street track crossing Monday. The male victim has been transported and remains hospitalized for treatment of his injuries.
Police responded to the incident near the Acres Street track crossing at about 3:48 p.m. Monday. Responding officers located the male victim north of the intersection.
Initial information indicated that the victim was walking southbound along the tracks in front of a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train. Despite the train crew's efforts, the subject failed to clear the tracks and was struck by the train, resulting in injuries to him.
The victim was transported from the scene by EMSStat, where he remains hospitalized for treatment of his injuries.
Along with the Norman Police Department and EMSStat, the Norman Fire Department, city of Norman Traffic Division and Burlington Northern Santa Fe personnel responded to the scene. The incident remains under investigation by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and the Norman Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
