NORMAN — While attending to two travel shows in February, the Norman CVB launched its new call-to-action campaign, “Be the First.”
This campaign builds on Norman’s history as a progressive city that aggressively pursued landing the territory’s first university while other communities were trying to become the state’s capitol, for example.
The “Be the First” tagline serves as the catalyst to inspire people to go online to VisitNorman.com and register for a series of different “First” experiences that will roll out progressively throughout 2013.
Right now, visitors can enter for the chance to the be the first to speed down the water slide on the first day Andy Alligator’s Water Park is open or to be go behind the scenes at the Western History Collection at the University of Oklahoma.
Print advertisements also debuted recently for readers of Midwest Living magazine promoting the same concept.
Also, the CVB was excited to see that The Cooking Channel included The Mont’s Queso as being among the 32 Best College Eats. Timed to take place as people across the country were filling out their NCAA basketball tournament brackets, The Mont’s dip faced off against a breakfast burrito from Austin, Texas.
Despite a last-day voting surge, the tasty treat from Norman did not prevail. Going into the final few hours of voting, the Queso trailed by nearly 400 votes, but the final gap was right at 275. Regardless of the disappointing result, Norman still has bragging rights for having one of the top 32 college eats.
