NORMAN — A water line on Peters Avenue burst sometime between 10 and 11 p.m., sending a raging torrent rushing down the street. The force of the water caused a small portion of the roadway to lift and separate from the rest, sending chunks of mud and asphalt racing down the street in the strong current.
There is no word yet on what caused the break. Randy Sparlin, a water line maintenance employee, said the line may simply be wearing out.
“We’ve got three or four patches on it already from it busting,” Sparlin said. “It’s just an old water line.”
The crew managed to get the line fixed around 12:05 Friday morning.
