NORMAN — Oklahoma defensive back Cortez Johnson pled guilty Tuesday to one count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana in Cleveland County Court. The same charge was dropped against wide receiver Jalen Saunders.
The pair was arrested early Dec. 2 by Cleveland County officers after marijuana was found in Saunders’ car, which was being driven by Johnson, during a traffic stop in Norman. Both were charged on Dec. 3.
“Mr. Johnson took full responsibility for the marijuana, so the charges against Mr. Saunders were dropped accordingly,” Cleveland County assistant district attorney Dane Powery said Tuesday afternoon.
Johnson, who redshirted this season after transferring to OU from Arizona, received a six-month deferred sentence, along with three months probation.
Saunders, a junior, averaged 92.1 receiving yards per game this past season.
