NORMAN — A morning accident involving a Norman Public School bus and private vehicle sent one driver to the hospital but left the students unharmed Wednesday.

Bertha Gonzalez, 33, suffered injuries to her arm and was transported to the hospital after her 2002 Chevy Blazer rolled and landed upside-down following a collision with the bus.

Capt. Tom Easley of the Norman Police Department confirmed that the police report included a single citation issued to the bus driver, James Quincy Harris Jr., for failure to yied to a stop sign.

Official fault for the accident has yet to be determined pending further investigation.

Community Relations Director Shelly Hickman said Harris has been temporarily suspended based on district procedure.

The rollover accident occurred at the intersection of Garrison Avenue and Windsor Way Drive near Alcott Middle School. Garrison was temporarily closed until approximately 10 a.m.

Gonzalez’ vehicle sustained extensive damage, the bus sustained minor damage, and police reports confirm the students and driver on the bus were not hurt.
