Meeting to provide information for wildfire victims

NORMAN — August 2012 will be remembered by the rural communities of Cleveland County for years to come. February 2013 marks the six- month anniversary of the wildfire in Cleveland County that left 15 square miles scorched and more than 200 homes damaged or destroyed.

In the aftermath of the destruction local jurisdictions, social service agencies, churches and agencies and including representatives from the State, came together to form the Cleveland County Long Term Recovery Committee.

The committee is hosting a community meeting to provide information regarding insurance processing, tax preparation for disaster losses, preparedness and fire safety information.

The meeting is February 25, 2013, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., at Twelve Corners Baptist Church, 15601 E. Etowah Road east of Noble.

A light meal will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for those attending.

State Insurance Commissioner John Doak will be addressing the community.

Judy Akin, president of the Oklahoma Society of Enrolled Agents is a tax professional who will discuss how to claim disaster losses on tax returns.

Kenneth Bentley with the American Red Cross will discuss family preparedness and representatives from several of the surrounding fire departments will discuss the Firewise Community Program.
