Animal lovers host concert to raise money for Bella Foundation

NORMAN — A local resident has organized a fundraiser after hearing about a recent incident of animal abuse in Norman.

A benefit music concert will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 8 at The Deli, 309 White St. It will be a free show, put on by the Kyle Reid Band, and donations will be taken at the door.

The woman behind the idea, Laura VanGundy, said after she heard a dog was hurt and killed by a human in the Norman community recently, she wanted to do something positive to help animals and animal lovers.

There also will be two shows following the free show. There is a cover charge of $5 and all of the proceeds from the shows will go to the Bella Foundation, a nonprofit organization in Oklahoma City, VanGundy said.

The foundation was created to assist low-income, elderly or terminally ill pet owners with the cost of veterinary care when it cannot be afforded.

The other two bands performing that night include Camille Harp and The Handsome Doubles. Those shows will run from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

When she told Harp about the fundraiser, the singer immediately agreed to perform and The Handsome Doubles wanted to help support the cause as well, she said.

“I’m best friends with Camille and she’s a huge animal lover like I am,” VanGundy said.
