NORMAN — After pursuing a suspect through Oklahoma City, Midwest City, Del City and Moore, Oklahoma Highway Patrol were able to stop a reckless driver in Norman.

The 40-mile pursuit was ended one mile south of Tecumseh Road when OHP performed tactical vehicle intervention. The driver of the vehicle, Jeffrey K. Sanders, was taken into custody after a brief struggle, OHP spokeswoman Trooper Betsy Randolph said.

The pursuit began a little after midnight when a trooper located a vehicle in the area of Northwest Expressway and Interstate 44, who had previously been pursued in the area of Broadway Extension near Wilshire Boulevard.

Randolph said the trooper activated emergency lights and the suspect vehicle took off eastbound on I-44, attempting to elude law enforcement through the metro area. The suspect drove in a reckless manner and reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, she said.

Randolph said during the pursuit, Sanders almost struck a trooper while he was trying to stop the vehicle using stop sticks.

Sanders was booked into Oklahoma County jail Wednesday on complaints of bail jumping, attempting to elude an officer, assault and battery, and possession of marijuana. His bond is set at $4,000. Randolph said Sanders will face numerous charges in Oklahoma County and may face charges in Cleveland County.
