NORMAN — A man was arrested Friday night for brandishing a rifle while in a vehicle at other drivers, Norman police authorities said.

The man, a passenger in a vehicle, pointed a .22-caliber rifle in the shape of an M16 at a driver in another car near the intersection of 12th Avenue SE and East Lindsey Street, Lt. Eric Lehenbauer said. The man’s name and age have not yet been released.

The alleged victim wrote down the vehicle’s tag number and called police. After police located the alleged suspect in the car, the alleged suspect exited the vehicle and a foot chase pursued, Lehenbauer said. During the chase the alleged suspect dropped the rifle.

The alleged suspect was reportedly drunk and pointing the gun at other drivers as a prank, Lehenbauer said.

The man is now in custody at Cleveland County Detention Center. His charges were not disclosed. The driver of the vehicle was released at the scene and police recovered the firearm, Lehenbauer said.
