Fire causes $600,000 of damage to property

NORMAN — A fire Sunday morning resulted in approximately $600,000 in total damages to a commercial property housing four businesses, according to Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey.

Norman firefighters responded at 6:20 a.m. to 708 Research Park Blvd.

“When firefighters got on scene, they had heavy smoke coming from the roof,” Bailey said. “The main fire was in the center part of the building.”

About one-third of the 6,000-square-foot building suffered the most damage. There was an estimated $300,000 worth of damage to the structure and another $300,000 to contents, Bailey said.

The fire was brought under control within an hour and a half.

“Firefighters were on scene until about 11:30 (a.m.),” Bailey said. “The fire marshals are still on scene investigating.”

There were no injuries. No cause for the fire has been determined.

Bailey said he believed no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
