NORMAN — Second Sunday Poetry will feature Larry Bierman reading from old and new works at 2 p.m. in The Depot, 200 S. Jones Ave. Light refreshments will be served.
Bierman, a third generation Oklahoman, grew up in Oklahoma City. He started writing poetry as a student at Taft Junior High in 1958. His earliest influences, he said, include church hymns, Mother Goose and the Beat poets.
A graduate of the University of Oklahoma and long-time resident of Norman, Bierman writes imaginative lyric, sometimes with a sarcastic edge.
Bierman has published four collections of poetry, and has been part of the poetry scene in central Oklahoma for almost four decades. He was an original participant in the Oklahoma Poets-in-the Schools program where he edited four anthologies of student poetry.
Bierman was a founding member of Individual Artists of Oklahoma. His work was most recently published in Oklahoma Poems and Their Poets.
