Overflow opportunity for NCVB

NORMAN — Since the ceremonial groundbreaking May 8 for the Holiday Inn Express, the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau staff has been spreading the message that we have enhanced product offerings.

The additional 115 rooms, which will be located across Conference Drive from the Embassy Suites Conference Center and Hotel, translates to being able to attract conferences, conventions and sporting events that will now be able to stretch from a little less than 300 overnight guests to right at 400 hotel rooms within walking distance.

Having an overflow property adjacent to the newest conference center space means there are new doors opening to conversations about selecting Norman for events.

Initially, we spread the message to our entire database of meeting professionals and other points of contact with a direct mail piece followed by an email blast. Both of these communication pieces have highlighted that Norman has more room for events for their consideration.

We have reached out to the meeting professionals’ niche media and have conducted interviews with magazine writers to explain how the overflow property will greatly enhance Norman’s ability to host even larger events.

Our sales managers have even had the chance to spread the word in person at two recent conferences, the Society of Government Meeting Professionals national conference and the Oklahoma State Association of Executives convention since the groundbreaking.

Scheduled to open next July, we are certainly aiming to have the property operating at occupancy moments after the doors open.

Stefanie Brickman is the communications manager of the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Vision of the Norman Convention & Visitors Bureau is to be the leader who proactively markets and develops Norman as the preferred destination in Oklahoma.
