Motorcycle officer released after crash

NORMAN — After a Norman Police Department motorcycle officer was involved in an accident Friday with an OU student, police say the motorcycle is inoperable, but its driver is OK.

Officer Brandon Wansick was transported Friday afternoon by EMSStat to Norman Regional Hospital to be evaluated but didn’t stay long, Capt. Tom Easley said. Wansick was cleared to go home a few hours after he was evaluated in the emergency room.

“He didn’t have much of a stay,” Easley said. “He should be back to work in about a week or so.”

As for the police motorcycle, Easley said it is “inoperable.”

“We don’t know the total extent of the damages,” he said. “We need to get someone down here to evaluate it before we can make any firm or fast conclusions.”

The accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Jenkins Avenue, south of Brooks Street and adjacent to the OU football stadium. University of Oklahoma senior defensive back Kasseim Everett collided with officer Wansick.

Everett, who was driving a 2011 Infiniti, received a citation for failure to yield while making a left turn. Everett went to Norman Regional Hospital to be treated for trunk and internal injuries, but his injuries were non-incapacitating, Easley said.
