It’s a double down for family fun

NORMAN — Double Dave’s Pizza Works is known as the birthplace of the pepperoni roll, home of the Philly cheesesteak stromboli and a place where those seeking healthy food that’s fun to eat can sit down and enjoy whole wheat crust, gluten-free pizza or vegetarian pizza.

Double Dave’s has numerous locations in Texas and one location in Oklahoma — inside Hey Day Entertainment Center in Norman, located just off of Interstate 35 and Indian Hills Road.

“We want healthy food because we all eat here too,” said co-owner and general manager Brad Little. “The quality of the food always surprises people.”

Little said everything, including the dough, is made fresh daily. The restaurant serves a strong customer base of teens from Norman North and Southmoore high schools.

“We have a large lunch crowd,” Little said.

Weekend business at Hey Day and Double Dave’s includes birthday parties, but, in general, older teens and young adults are the strongest customer base.

Hey Day was the first business to locate on that patch of northwest Norman that is growing into a regional entertainment draw.

Hey Day owners are local and committed to the community. Co-owner Trey Bates served as last year’s Chairman of the Board of the Norman Chamber of Commerce. Little serves as Chairman of the Board of the Moore Chamber and is on the executive committee of the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. Both the Bates and the Little families live in Norman.

“This whole thing eight years ago was a dream,” Little said. “God is really good.”

The reality has turned out even better than the vision, he said.

“We just redid our whole laser tag area,” Little said. “It was a major investment. It’s turned out really well. We actually had our best laser tag ever in March. We have more adults play laser tag than kids.”
