NORMAN — Sandi Sheppard, of Norman, recently was named a finalist in the National Pork Board’s contest. Sheppard has been named one of eight finalists in the national search to find America’s Top #ChopGriller. Now, it’s up to pork fans to vote and determine the winner.
Sheppard discovered the thrill of competitive cooking in 2010. She has qualified for six national cook-offs and won several grilling contests.
Her grilling tip calls for stuffing New York pork chops with jerk grilled pineapple, Brussels sprouts and bacon and topping them with a fiery roasted raspberry chipotle barbecue chutney.
The National Pork Board had an online contest challenging grillers to share a short boast about what takes their pork chops to the top. Chef Ray “Dr. BBQ” Lampe helped narrow the field to eight, vying for a grand prize of $15,000 toward a backyard makeover, a large Big Green Egg grill package and a summer’s worth of free pork. Fans can visit PorkBeinspired.com through June 13 and submit one vote per day. Those who vote will be entered for a prize drawing.
