MOORE — An upcoming golf tournament will raise funds for teachers within the Moore Public School District, including teachers at Briarwood and Plaza Towers elementary schools, which were destroyed in the May 20 tornado. Moore Public Schools Foundation for Academic Excellence will host its 12th annual golf tournament at Earlywine Park Golf Course at 8 a.m. Monday.

“The golf tournament is our largest fundraiser for the foundation,” said Dr. Kristi Scroggins, board president. “But it means a little more to everyone this year, as we will still be working to restore our school system in the aftermath of the tornado. The money we raise will not just enhance the classrooms impacted by the May storms but also will help to improve the entire educational experience of every child in Moore Public Schools.”

The first tournament was in 2001, and almost $10,000 was raised then. The tournament has been hosted every year since, and there were more than 100 participants last year; $20,000 was raised.

“We are hoping for a record-breaking turnout this year,” Scroggins said. “The school system needs our support now more than ever, and I am confident that the people in this area can rally together once again to support our community.”

Registration information for this year’s tournament will be available starting in mid-July on the foundation’s Facebook page or at docs.com/

U1BX. Up to four people are eligible to play on a team, and there is no limit to the number of teams . There are sponsorship opportunities for non-golfers as well. For questions about the tournament, contact Jamie Ward at jward@hucgocpa.com.
