Small blaze damages apartment
A small fire damaged a downstairs unit at Charleston Apartments, 2073 W. Lindsey St., shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday. The blaze quickly engulfed the shrubs and grass, then started crawling up the wall, bursting the window and damaging the front portion of the unit. People at the scene threw buckets of water on the flames, extinguishing the worst of the blaze before firefighters arrived. A cigarette was found by a row of shrubs near the apartment.
