NORMAN — The Sisters of Swing are headed to the Norman Depot to spread some Christmas cheer on Sunday.

Mary Reynolds, on bass, guitar and vocals for the group, said the concert will be made up of a variety of entirely Christmas-themed music.

“We try to appeal to everyone and we have a couple of numbers that we try to spice up for the kids, if there are kids,” she said. “All the girls are really funny and really like to make the kids laugh. And then if you like old rock ’n’ roll Christmas music and you like to sing along to Christmas carols we have that, too. We try to have something in there for everybody.”

The group initially formed in 1985 and the members now include Reynolds, Louise Goldberg on piano, accordion and vocals, Elyse Angelo on drums, as well as Mary Freeh, Joanne Trombley, Christine Freeh and Rosalind Cravens on vocals. The Christmas concert will include special guest Terry “Buffalo” Ware on guitar.

Though being a part of Sisters of Swing is a side project for all the musicians, Reynolds said they have made a point of hosting a holiday concert every year for the past 13 years in Oklahoma City.

The group is happy to be hosting an additional Christmas concert in Norman this year, as a way to reach out to more fans.

Reynolds said the concerts are a way for the members to give back to the community. The idea developed when the members decided they needed a way to get back to basics during the holidays. They decided to host a concert where all proceeds would go towards charity.

At the Norman concert, Reynolds asks those in attendance to bring canned goods, shampoo, soap or toothpaste for donation to Mission Norman.

The two concerts in Oklahoma City at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 5401 N. Brookline, are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 22. Tickets are $10 for adults and $2 for children, with all proceeds benefiting Guilt of St. George, a food pantry and assistance agency.

Refreshments will be served at the Norman concert.
