NORMAN — As those of us who regularly watch the Sooners play sports on television know, University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren proudly proclaims that OU has the most National Merit Scholars enrolled at a public university during the commercial for the institution as well as some other terrific bragging points.
Although the Norman CVB does not quite have the access to the masses that Boren does, we have been conducting grass-roots efforts to reach student leaders at OU. Because they represent some of the best and brightest students, the CVB contacted about 500 student organization leaders as well as the larger umbrella organizations with chapters at OU earlier this fall to let them know who we are and what we do.
These student leaders regularly plan events, conferences, workshops, seminar and other gatherings of people from outside the community. We were hoping to let them know the services that are available through the CVB. These include providing guidance to choose a venue from identifying the perfect meeting space for their needs to locating the best convention/conference vendors; logistical support including transportation and attraction discounts along with itinerary development and attendance builders.
The CVB will also help with welcome bags and other hospitality initiatives.
After all, these students can use the services we provide to make sure that they have plenty of time to hit the books and add to Boren’s list of accomplishments.
