NORMAN — The Norman Human Rights Award is presented to individuals or organizations in Norman that have shown outstanding effort, achievement and/or leadership in the promotion of human rights and equality and are an example to all.
Nomination letters can be forwarded to: Norman Human Rights Commission, City of Norman, P.O. Box 370, Norman, OK 73070.
Residents also may email nomination letters to email@example.com. All nominations must be received by Nov. 19. Residents must include their name and telephone number as well as that of the nominee. The person or organization selected by the commission will be honored at the Norman City Council meeting Dec. 11.

The selection of an individual or group recipient of the Human Rights Award is based on exceptional achievement to promote human rights and equality. Chapter 7 of the Code of the city of Norman states that it is the policy of the city that all residents of this community shall have an equal opportunity to purchase, rent, lease or occupy housing accommodations or to avail themselves of public accommodations and have an equal opportunity in the job market, and the social and economic life of the city, without regard to race, color, religion, ancestry, sex, national origin, age, place of birth or handicap.
It is further declared and determined to be the policy of the city of Norman that all residents of this community should be provided with an opportunity to reach their full potentials as human beings, without being inhibited by conditions relating to race, color, religion, ancestry, sex, national origin, age, place of birth or handicap.
Activities taken into consideration include:
· Achievements — successes, results and impact
· Efforts — personal risks taken, time expended, sacrifices made and years of service
· Leadership — inspiration or motivation given, cooperation fostered, organizations or programs created, example set and innovations undertaken.
