NEW:I'll pass on George Bush's 4th of July speech

  • Don't welcome Bush to Woodward

  • Money not well spent
    Editor, The Transcript:
Did the City of Norman really spend a million dollars on "speed humps" in the last six years? What were we thinking? Now some are having second thoughts about "humps" on CART and emergency vehicles routes.

  • Don't smooth it out
    Editor, The Transcript:
June 14, the "Our View," stated that perhaps it was time to change the charter to allow the city council to raise utility rates without a vote. Surely that was a joke.
Trust the city council who is wasting money on humps and "round abouts" when the money is needed to control flooding streets and street repairs.

  • Price clarifies OU Press layoffs
    Editor, The Transcript:
I want to clarify information related to the story about the University of Oklahoma Press layoffs published in Saturday's Norman Transcript. Your story correctly stated that the layoffs were a cost-cutting measure, however, the reductions at the OU Press were not a result of the budget presented by President Boren and adopted at the Regents' meeting last week.

  • Hats off to deputies, sheriff
    Editor, The Transcript:
Back in the first week of June I returned home to find I had been broken into and robbed. All of my valuables were gone and my house trashed.
The Cleveland County Sheriffs Deptment was notified and within six hours I had 95 percent of my belongings back.

  • Rights of veterans shouldn't be ignored
    Editor, The Transcript:
There is no reason one of our veterans should be kicked out of a care facility for reasons of retaliation. A civilian should not have the right to have a paralyzed military veteran removed from his home of half a decade.

  • A job well done
    Editor, The Norman Transcript:
A big thank you for a job well done goes to Jeff Johncox and Michael Kinney for their coverage of the Sunbelt Classic here in Norman last week. It meant many hours involved with games, interviews and writing the columns.

  • Coincidentally
    Editor, The Transcript:
There sure seems to be a lot of coincidences lately when it comes to our city government. The mayor coincidentally works for the University of Oklahoma, but defeated efforts to make being an employee a conflict of interest.

  • Barking about Baxter
    Editor, The Transcript:
A recent opinion piece published in The Norman Transcript by Dr. Baxter Black (The Dark Side, June 23) falsely claims that The Humane Society of the United States does not do much to help animal shelters.
