  • George and the elderly
    Editor, The Transcript
For several years George "gadfly in the ointment" Will has written numerous columns lambasting three of his favorite targets: Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal, the 1960s, and the New York Times.

  • More power to Pelosi
    Editor, The Transcript:
You do your readers a disservice when you print political cartoons like the one in Wednesday's Transcript depicting Nancy Pelosi as a doctor taking a patient's wallet. The true cartoon should have depicted a CEO of the health insurance industry picking all of our pockets and a Republican congressman standing behind while the insurance exec.

  • Ring a bell
The Salvation Army's red kettles visually remind us that it is the Christmas season, a season when the spirit of giving and concern for our fellow men, women, boys and girls seems to possess us all. What better way to heed that spirit than to drop bills or coins in the red kettles while hearing the joyful ringing of the bells by a caring volunteer.

  • One unhappy birthday
    Editor, The Transcript
This is an open letter to the person who stole my sister's birthday present off her porch:
Please enjoy the subtle scent of the pumpkin spice candles. I chose them for my sister because heavily perfumed ones trigger her asthma and I thought these would be safe for her.

  • Tower dedicated her life to teaching
    Editor, The Transcript:
The Transcript's report today of the passing of Norene Tower marks the end of a remarkable life of service, education and entertainment for countless individuals in our state.

  • 'Boo birds' need to fly away
I am disheartened by Saturday's game with Kansas State. The Sooners performed extremely well and won the game. Some of the so-called Sooner Fans, however, did all they could to spoil a great game for those of us who came to root for the home team.

  • Thanks
    Editor, The Transcript
As executive director of the Community Services Building Inc. I would like to thank all those who helped make the CSBI 2009 chili cook-off and silent auction a success.
Thank you to Randy May, (presenter of awards and Griffin Hospital administrator), Chili Chefs from: Aging Services, Among Friends, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Center for Children and Families Inc.

  • Help children move forward
    Editor, The Transcript:
    Oklahoma Shame?
Hold on there Vince! Oklahoma Shame? "Oklahoma Shame, by VInce Orza, Norman Transcript, Friday, October 23, 2009." There may be a difference of opinion in these statements made in The Transcript.

  • Descent into political chaos
    Editor, The Transcript:
I viewed with sadness the broken storefront windows at the Democratic Party office last Sunday. So often we hear about political violence occurring in other countries or in other states, but find it difficult to imagine in Norman.
