Approving sales tax issues Tuesday will help Norman 'make it right'

The Norman Transcript

Editor, The Transcript:

As a lifelong resident of this town, I am supporting the bond and sales tax issues that are coming forward. My family goes back in Norman over three generations now. My new wife and I often talk about our careers, and our goals and dreams of someday starting a family here in Norman -- the fourth generation of our family.

The choice we have May 13 is one that will help us achieve everything we could ever want as newlyweds, parents, civic leaders and eventually as seniors. It will give us the security and peace of mind in knowing that our city's public safety units are all adequately funded and staffed. It will give us a facility that's more than just sufficient in the way of a library, giving our children something that the average child does not have access to in our city today. It will give our city staff the office space they need and deserve to carry out the city's business, ensuring longevity and stability. And it will give my wife and me a place to gather with friends as we become seniors someday.

I hope that my fellow citizens will see that this is a good opportunity to address a wide range of issues that will benefit not just current residents, but those that will become the caretakers of the city in the future as well. How can we expect anyone to take care of our city, if we ourselves choose not to take care of Norman now?

We have public safety issues that must be addressed today. There are people in this city that don't have enough police patrolling the streets. There are people in this city that don't have a fire station within a reasonable distance. Let's make it right. We have a library that needs computers, more space, and books. Let's make it right. We have city staff working in a facility that is too small. Let's make it right. We have seniors that don't have adequate facilities to spend their golden days. Let's make it right. On May 13th let's vote to fix these problems.
