Let the city hear 'no' again

The Norman Transcript

Editor, The Transcript:

Get out and vote. Vote no on Norman's sales tax increase. The Norman City Council ignored last year's clear message, "no tax increase." Why is the City Council wasting precious tax payer money on a special election and 20,000 mailers for essentially the same issue? While most state budgets are shrinking and our community is struggling with energy costs, it would appear the Norman City Council isn't concerned with the hardship of those with limited or fixed incomes. They must believe you still have some change left in your pockets.

Rather than raising taxes perhaps the city should cede some of the land back to the county making the city smaller and reducing the need for services.

This will be a permanent tax increase. In six years, when we get to "choose" if we want to continue with the tax, the sitting city council will try to threaten us by claiming "If you don't approve a continuation of the tax, we will have to cut many jobs, close down fire stations, and the streets will be unsafe."

If the City Council wouldn't hear "no" on a sales tax increase last year, let them hear it this year. Perhaps in the next few years some individuals on the city council should hear a resounding "no" at the general elections.
