Norman did not fulfill potential

Editor, The Transcript:
The city of Norman is reminding me of the report cards I got at John F. Kennedy Elementary School back in the 70's -- "does not fulfill his potential."?
Yes, we did vote for firefighters, cops, and books, but we missed the opportunity to take a step away from mediocrity toward a thriving future. We failed by voting against a new library building, which would serve our citizens, boost our businesses, and increase our quality of life -- regardless of the funding source or exact location.
We did not fulfill our potential.
I can only trust that people will learn from this mistake. Some of the apathetic or "just too busy" folks made the mistake of not voting -- next time, please vote for our hometown. Your vote counts -- honest, it does. Some petty folks made the mistake of using this vote as a political stage rather than a chance to move Norman forward -- next time, think of our hometown first, your political agenda second.
Since the third grade, I've continued to learn from my innumerable mistakes, and have begun to fulfill my potential. I hope and pray my hometown will do the same.
People of Norman: If we continue to support jails and oppose libraries, we will become a town full of ignorant criminals. Recent events indicate that may be our goal. However, I have not lost faith in my hometown. I expect we will get a second chance. Next time, fulfill your potential.
