Editor, The Transcript:
June 14, the "Our View," stated that perhaps it was time to change the charter to allow the city council to raise utility rates without a vote. Surely that was a joke.
Trust the city council who is wasting money on humps and "round abouts" when the money is needed to control flooding streets and street repairs. Wasting money on a study to make a small area on Porter "retro" and planning to put in humps and round abouts. The hospital is on Porter.
Although a new library was voted down, the mayor went out and purchased property to build the new library and has the University of Oklahoma working on designs. If the mayor and others are so passionate to have a new library they should solicit donations to build it.
Now they are wasting $2,000 per hump to smooth them down some. Don't smooth them out, take every single one built, out.
As to the "round abouts," Oklahoma City had a traffic circle on Classen for years. There were multiple accidents there. When they took it out, the accident rate went down.
They said they are not going to build any more humps where emergency vehicles have to travel. I'm sure that is comforting to those who live on speed hump streets. I guess they will never need an emergency vehicle.
Do not waste any more money on humps and traffic circles.
Again, "don't smooth 'em out, take 'em out."
