Editor, The Transcript:I was disappointed to read that consumer prices rose 1.1 percent in June. I often accompany my mom to the grocery store and have noticed how we have cut down on our grocery spending.

Editor, The Transcript:The next time you hear someone say they are having trouble paying for gas and prescription drugs, just tell them that Dr. Phil "you can't have any pudding until you eat your meat" Gramm says to stop whining.

Mayor coverage questioned

Editor, The Transcript:I find very troubling the Transcript's coverage of Mayor Rosenthal's alleged violation of the Open Meetings and Records Act. I do not know whether Mayor Rosenthal violated the Act, but the Transcript makes it awfully difficult to determine the truth of the matter.

Editor, The Transcript:Phil Gramm was recently quoted as saying this country was a nation of whiners. The current discussion on speed humps in Norman brought this to mind.We live on South Pickard. By the time traffic nears Imhoff going south on Pickard, especially after school starts, many vehicles are going well over the speed limit.

A serious problem

Editor, The Transcript:The temporal juxtaposition of the article and op-ed about the red cedar meeting and Pat Folley's column with a message to introduce youth to wildflowers, specifically, but nature in general, brings to my mind the need for a more comprehensive education for our citizens of the effects of invasive plants on our native species.

What's the deal?

Editor, The Transcript:I've followed the discussions about turning the new conference center over to Hammons and his hotel. I do believe the Rock Creek bridge is a good idea. However, what will this transaction mean to community groups wanting to use the conference center for a small meeting? Will the cost for using the facility now be determined by the hotel? Will there be any provisions for free or reduced-cost use of the facilities, depending on the group? I'm surprised there's been no discussion on this issue.

Editor, The Transcript:I spent a wonderful afternoon at Reaves park on Independence Day.Once again the planners have outdone themselves. Yet, I found myself asking what happened to our honoring our military members, both past and present, when notably the Armed Forces Medley was left out of the music during the fireworks this year.

Editor, The Transcript:There are heroes and saints among us. I have met them during my father's recent illness and decline. They are caregivers working in our homes and in places like the J.D. McCarty Center, the Oklahoma Veteran's Center, group homes, nursing homes, state hospitals and hospices everywhere.
