NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
In my search for affordable housing, I ran across an ad for an “efficiency house” of 76 square feet for $375 per month. That’s barely bigger than a jail cell. How long before some enterprising developer gets hold of the former jail house downtown and turns it into trendy, overpriced micro-housing?
If you can’t imagine people living and paying to live in such a space, go to YouTube and search for the 78 square foot “studio” in Hell’s Kitchen in New York City. That one doesn’t even have a proper kitchen, the bath across the hall is shared between four people and it rents for $800 per month.
I understand the local high density housing meetings start again soon. Perhaps this time the focus will be less on housing OU students and more on housing everyone else. God knows we need affordable housing more than they do.
