Pictures tell the story

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

I, too, saw the photographs in the Jan. 19 Transcript taken at the Norman Tea Party rally. Unlike Gary S. Vitello and others who complained of no reporting on the meeting, I thought that the pictures spoke volumes and I congratulate The Transcript on their visual reporting.

One picture showed two older white men with angry looks on their faces. The other showed a local politician with one hand up in a defensive posture and an expression of resigned patience on his face that you usually see when someone is trying to maintain composure and civility when confronted with an angry mob.

Why did The Transcript not include details about what was being discussed at the meeting? The answer is, why bother? I knew what the meeting was about without having to be told anything, and I’ll bet the majority of readers who saw the pictures knew what the meeting was about as well. Hmmm, could it be the topic of discussion was ... Obamacare? Repeal it, get rid of the penalties, defund it, threaten any politician who even thinks of suggesting that it is the law now and that people should move on and try to make it work.

You don’t need a thousand words (or even one or two) for pictures to tell a story.
