NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
Having worked for businesses for over 35 years, and having experienced layoffs, long hours, sacrifices and uncertainties about the future, it is ingrained in me that one is responsible for their actions and that you are to be mindful of the company and their shareholders. And one thing that was always clear was that whoever was in charge was expected to know what was going on and took full responsibility for the integrity of the business.
It meant creating value for the stockholders and the being good stewards of others money, something totally foreign to the government.
If they did not or the business took a wrong turn, then that person was held accountable and replaced. Claiming to not know was not acceptable. As Harry Truman once bluntly said, “The Buck Stops Here”, in regards to the office of the Presidency of the United States.
For well over a year, we the people have been watching rapid destruction of the credibility and integrity of the executive branch of the federal government.
Just the past year, we have suffered through the Benghazi affair, a full scandal at the IRS targeting certain groups, spying on world leaders (our allies nonetheless), and now the complete debacle known as the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). The Obamacare debacle has already canceled the insurance of over 6 million customers, and the signup site is a disaster even with a three year lead time. One of the best Tweets I saw was a comparison of the time that the Administration has had to roll out the website is the same timeframe that the United States entered World War II and victoriously caused the surrender of Germany and Japan.
That government built ships, planes, and trained million of men to go win a World War. We cannot even come up with a workable website. Each and every time, our President claims to know nothing about the problems and claims no responsibility.
Any CEO, business owner, or even the principal at your kids school would have been fired for being that incompetent to not know about anything he was responsible for. If that is the excuse, then obviously the federal government is far too big to be managed and needs to be scaled back dramatically.
I am not just complaining about the executive branch, the judicial branch is far too reaching in policy creation and the legislative branch is ineffective.
The two richest counties in the US are the ones directly north and directly south of Washington DC. We have a system of entitlement for those in government and for far too many people in this country. I advocate a greater reduction in the size of the federal government, a balanced budget amendment, term limits, and public financing of campaigns - everyone gets the same amount of money to campaign on.
This is a great country, people want to work, they want a good education and they love this country, even if the federal government works full time against these ideas.
