NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
On Saturday, May 10, the Norman League of Women Voters will hold its annual meeting at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, 601 24th Ave. SW, Norman, OK, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
The speaker for this event will be former Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives Kris Steele. Mr. Steele, during his tenure, oversaw the enactment of corrections reform that expanded the eligibility of low-risk, nonviolent inmates for community sentencing and electronic monitoring programs, and the passage of the Justice Reinvestment Initiative.
This event will include a salad luncheon provided by the Norman League for all attendees. Those wishing to attend are asked to make reservations prior to May 5. Individuals interested in attending this luncheon, or desiring more information, should call 310-4939, or 364-4493
The League of Women Voters is a citizens’ organization that works to improve our government and engage all citizens in the decisions that impact their lives. The League is nonpartisan, which means we don’t support or oppose candidates for public office. However, we are well known for hosting candidate forums. We undertake this because we believe deeply that the public should hear different views on the issues facing our communities. An honest and respectful sharing of ideas is vital to the functioning of American democracy.
