It’s not the highway that’s dangerous; it’s the drivers

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

I’m writing today in response to the previous editorial about Highway 9 needing to be fixed. I do not claim to be the only law abiding driver who has been the recent victim of a driver on the street of Norman who has exhibited a complete disregard to the safety of others.

Last Friday evening, Jan. 25, I was traveling east bound on Highway 9 preparing to make a right hand turn onto S.E. 12th St. when a male in a white sedan was so impatient after having to drive 50 mph behind me that he actually passed me in the grass on my right.

The miracle is that there was not a wreck. I have read all the bad things about Highway 9, but the road itself does not make it dangerous. It is the drivers.

When I realized he was passing on my right, on the shoulder, I honked as he pulled right in front of me.

He gave me a well known gesture and he wasn’t waving at me.

We both made our turn and guess what? He was stopped at the 4 way stop at 12th and Cedar Lane. Guess what? I got his tag number. All of you drivers remember this fact. We have the power t do something about it. Take down the tag number, report it to the police and you will have done your part.

The police now know his name and he had better be very careful not only on Highway 9, but on all the streets.
