Please help the animals

NORMAN — Dear Mayor Rosenthal,

I am a volunteer at the animal shelter. All I care about is the animals' welfare.

We go and walk and pet the dogs, clean cages and sometimes clean the dogs, too. We pet the cats.

Without us, the dogs would not get out of those horrible cages. We have heretofore been taking pictures and posting them to get people to come in to adopt them. Now, we are told we can't do that because of what another different-from-us, well-meaning rescue group has done, and that we can't do it until further notice.

Please expedite this matter for us? Thank you so much.

The animal shelter is a terrible place, as you know. Thankfully we are building a new one. This one is like Alcatraz. Many people come in to it and run out crying, holding their noses.

I go every Saturday for four-plus hours to walk and love on the dogs. At night I have trouble sleeping, seeing their sweet, pathetic faces.

We need to work harder to help get these sweet animals homes. The city needs to hire people just to walk the dogs daily. I'm 67 now, and I do this. I exhaust and make myself sick every week, the last 6 months, to do this.

Jeff Bloomgarden has been doing it for 18 months. There are some others who help too.

Please be on the side of the unfortunate shelter animals in Norman, and help us.

Thank you.

JEANNE DIARAJ
