NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
Governor Fallin’s editorial of 8 May stated that the recent botched execution merely “took too long” and that the out of state pundits criticizing us had forgotten about the victims. She followed with a detailed, prurient, recounting of vicious murder. She closed with hopes that she had given some comfort to the victim’s families.
It is public record that the murderer Crockett was first mildly sedated and then pumped full of two chemicals that first paralyze then cause a massive heart attack. Both are known to be excruciating. In this way our government representatives made sure, through their action and inaction, that Crockett was tortured before he finally succumbed.
Fallin’s implicit message is “Outsider’s don’t understand us. We believe that capital punishment is about revenge, and in the name of revenge, torture is OK”. I believe we are better than that.
