A walk down East Main Street

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Monday was one of those glorious days where the sun is shining and the temperature is in the 70s. After shopping in one of our local stores, a dear friend and I decided to take a leisurely walk down East Main Street. We looked in the windows, visited and generally took our time. It was uplifting to see so many new great-looking local restaurants and small businesses. It truly was a simple yet magical time.

It was a reminder of how wonderful it is to share time with special friends, to live in a town such as Norman where there are many places to take a leisurely walk and enjoy our surroundings — if we will but take the time.

A walk sounds like such a simple thing, but done at leisure, it can be a peaceful and renewing event. t also reminds me to be thankful to live in such a wonderful community where I have the luxury of feeling safe.

Unfortunately, there are many people around the world who cannot feel safe and who, in all too many cases, have neighborhoods that have been reduced to rubble.

So, I know you have a million things to do to get ready for the holidays, but I challenge you to take a few minutes and take your own walk down Main Street, or leisurely sip a glass of hot cider in a comfy chair.

Wishing you the magical moments of Christmas.
