NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Whoa there Transcript, before we ride off happily with our post-election council as you suggested (April 4), there were some shenanigans in the mayoral election that need to be attributed.

The Tom Sherman mailers contained demonstrably inaccurate statements that should be recognized as his having behavior unfit for a mayor.

Then the Chamber of Commerce sent out a mailer during the election reporting lower tax receipts of Norman compared to other selected Oklahoma towns. Although the Chamber is trying to convince the Norman Election Commission that this was just information they were sending Normanites, I think most people receiving this mailer understood its purpose of supporting Tom Sherman.

The letter from John Woods, president of the Chamber of Commerce (April 3 Transcript) expressed that the Norman Council should work with the Chamber. Instead, Normanites should recognize that the Chamber does not have our best interests at heart.

A mailer sent out by Better Norman Advocates, Inc. accused Mayor Rosenthal of doing nothing to protect us from chromium 6 without noting that the level found in our water is below the current limit set by the EPA. The registering agent of this corporation is the developer Sassan Moghadam, who contributed $50,500 of the recorded expenditures of the corporation.

In a final accounting, these people tried to discredit Mayor Rosenthal to benefit their side and the electorate chose the other side. Keeping in mind who did this, I now agree with the Transcript in saying let’s go forward.
