Media scare tactics shouldn’t chase off insurance seekers

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

I’m not “conservative,” as currently understood, but I’ve been trying to like Tom Cole. Is there a respectful way to say “Scratch that?” His letter today praises the unprecedented arm-twisting that is going on, demanded initially by a small minority, essentially an attack on our workable system of government. Aren’t we wanting to export elective democracy to the whole world?

Readers know that the “compromise,” that he claims the president refused, ties funding the government — the whole government — to messing with a law passed by the 2010 Congress.

I don’t see any sign that this minority, that is playing havoc with its own party, has a health plan to address our intolerable cost of care, unlike that in any advanced country in the world. If it developes one, we can work on that, when we return to a normal functioning legislature.

In the meantime, I hope people who really need to try a new system can find a way to check out the misinformation in some of the media. It’s just scare-tactics! And healthy young adults only need to remember that it’s smart to buy insurance when your premiums are low.
