Republicans hurting nation

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Richard Wells stated in a recent letter to The Norman Transcript that he is a Democrat who voted for Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., and is unhappy with his representation with respect to the government shutdown.

I am a very senior citizen and a Democrat who has, in the past, voted for Republicans. After the Republican Congress people’s recent actions on food stamps and more recently on the shutdown, I don’t think I will live long enough to ever vote for a Republican again.

This shutdown is already affecting government activities and especially our veteran support groups. Gen. Wesley Clark states that thousands of claim adjusters will be furloughed, benefit and disability checks may be late and VA hospital services will be cut.

I know this personally since my daughter, who is retired from VA medical services, has been called back to help with those affected by the shutdown and doesn’t know when she will get paid.

I am a disabled Korean combat veteran and believe this action by our representatives could affect me and other veterans directly. These representatives are not responsive to the people of our country and those of us who served so honorable in our many foreign wars.

The Affordable Care Act is not perfect, but it is now the law of the land and we need to give it a chance not use it to shut down the government.

Editor, The Transcript: I’m offended. Why you say? I live in the USA, in Norman — a great town. What could possibly offend me? I’ll tell you. It’s people that are offended by the most meaningless things (what to call an evergreen tree in ...
