No one wants another U.S. shutdown

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

It was recently announced in The Norman Transcript that Tom Cole, a Republican congressional representative, was appointed to serve on a 29-member conference committee to negotiate a budget resolution for the country by Dec. 13.

We hope the committee is successful because nobody wants another government shutdown and the country not paying its debts because the borrowing limit was not raised.

Mr. Cole would get a solution by placing the debt problem on the backs of senior citizens. He favors adopting the “Chained Consumer Price Index.” This would, according to AARP, drastically cut COLA benefits to older Americans.

He labels Social Security as an entitlement. Social Security is a benefit earned by seniors through long years of contributions during their working years.

Seniors, make your voices heard to protect Social Security. Be diligent to vote for a representative to give the country a balanced government. Be aware of those Republicans pushing solid Republican representation: president, Senate and House of Representatives.

Electing qualified persons could produce a strong, cohesive and fair country with a trusted Social Security program.
